The inaugural class of graduates from Elon University School of Law passed the state’s bar exam at a rate similar to other established schools in North Carolina, according to the N.C. Board of Law Examiners.

Elon graduated its first law students in May, and among those students who took the bar exam for the first time in July, 83 percent passed.

By comparison, UNC-Chapel Hill had an 87 percent passage rate, and Duke University posted an 85 percent passage rate.

Graduates from the Wake Forest University School of Law had the top bar passage rates among universities in the state for the second year in a row.

Ninety-two percent of Wake Forest graduates passed the state bar exam, according to the N.C. Board of Law Examiners.

The bar exam includes 12 essay questions about North Carolina law and 200 multiple-choice questions that test general knowledge of U.S. law.
