orthwestern California University School of Law is a distance education institution founded in 1982. It is authorized by the California State Bar to award the Juris Doctor Degree upon completion of a California Bar Qualifying Program and while regulated by the California State Bar it is not accredited by the American Bar Association. The School delivers courses entirely through a distance education format. The main teaching medium is the Internet.



General Information

Northwestern California University was established in 1982 to provide quality education to individuals around the world through independent, non-resident study.

The school's programs are designed to combine the best features of traditional education with Internet based, online and recorded instruction.

A California Bar regulated program will prepare individuals for admission to practice before the California State Courts, the United States Federal Courts and the United States Supreme Court. The Bachelor of Science in Law degree will be awarded to those who complete one half of the program. The degree of Juris Doctor will be awarded to individuals who complete the entire program.

The program for those students seeking California Bar eligibility requires four years of correspondence study in accordance with California Bar requirements.

The school also has a Paralegal program that culminates in the granting of certificates of completion.

Degrees Offered

The school offers a Bachelor of Science in Law (BSL) and Juris Doctor (JD) degree program, as well as a Paralegal certificate program. Those who are successful in the degree program receive the BSL degree at the end of 2 years and a JD degree at the end of 4.

Residence and Time Requirements

Northwestern California University does not have or require on-campus residence or classroom instruction. Four years of law study, accomplished according to certain terms and conditions, are required by the California State Bar from those seeking such eligibility through the Law Study Program described herein.

It will be the student's responsibility to be sure that the Bar eligibility requirements are met.

Accreditation

The JD program is not accredited by the California State Bar or American Bar Association, which do not accredit online programs.

The program is registered with the California State Bar, which means students to whom the school awards the JD degree are eligible to take the bar examination and become licensed to practice law in California, and indicates that the school meets certain standards of the Bar.
