The University of Northern California, Lorenzo Patiņo School of Law (UNC) is a private law school located in Sacramento, California. UNC offers a part-time, four-year law program as well as a paralegal program.

The school was founded in 1983 by Leonard Padilla in association with attorneys Heman Smith, Doug Nareau, Danny Brace, Jr., and the late Judge Lorenzo Patiņo to provide a quality and affordable legal education.

UNC is currently authorized to grant Juris Doctor degrees by the California State Department of Education and is listed with the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California as an unaccredited law school. As such, students must take and pass the First-Year Law Students' Examination, also known as the "Baby Bar", at the end of their first year in order to receive credit for their law study and eventually qualify to sit for the California Bar Exam.

The University of Northern California (UNC), Lorenzo Patiņo School of Law, was founded in 1983 to provide a high quality legal education at an affordable cost. UNC provides an evening law school program, allowing students to prepare for the California State Bar Examination while maintaining full-time employment.

The goal of the law school is to qualify its students for entry into the legal profession, as well as enable them to meet the needs of society as members of an honored profession. UNC’s four-year curriculum consists of traditional law school courses and is enhanced by selective electives, which are designed to broaden and to develop the analytical thought processes of its students. Judges and practicing attorneys teach the classes, providing practical experience as well as theoretical instruction.

UNC encourages vigorous student-faculty discussion of the law. The ratio of faculty members to students is approximately one professor for every 15 students. Class sizes range from ten to twenty students. UNC is authorized by the California State Department of Education to grant Juris Doctorate degrees and is listed with the California State Committee of Bar Examiners as an unaccredited law school.

Bar Pass Rates

In October 2006, four students took the California First Year Law Students Examination (the "Baby Bar") for the first time; one passed. In the July 2006 California Bar Examination, ten graduates took the examination for the first time; two passed. Thirty-one took the examination for at least a second time after previously failing it; two passed.
