The University of West Los Angeles (also referred to as UWLA) is a private, non-profit School of Law with two campuses in the Los Angeles metropolitan area in Inglewood and Chatsworth, California. The School of Law is approved by the Committee of Bar Examiners of The State Bar of California.

University of West Los Angeles - Established 1966

Merger with San Fernando Valley College of Law

In 2002, the San Fernando Valley College of Law, previously an independent law school founded in 1962, was acquired and merged into UWLA. The San Fernando Valley College of Law was one of the first independently founded law schools (not associated with a university) in several decades, and was the first law school ever in the San Fernando Valley despite the fact that the San Fernando Valley, if it had been a separate city at the time of the founding of the law school, would have been the fifth largest city in the United States. The San Fernando School was co-founded by Leo L. Mann and Joseph P. Lamont. Mann was an attorney, originally from Brooklyn, New York, who believed strongly that older "second career" individuals were entitled to an opportunity to become lawyers. At one point, the San Fernando Valley College of Law grew to become one of the largest law schools in the country with over 1000 students. Today, a significant number of the attorneys practicing in the San Fernando Valley are graduates of the San Fernando Valley College of Law, including a significant number of judges. Mann died in June 2004, at the age of 79.

We understand that success in our Los Angeles law school depends on many factors: the students’ potential, their commitment to achieve, the support they receive from friends and family, the qualification and competency of their instructors, financial stability, a well-designed curriculum, access to the resources they need and the encouragement and support of mentors.
Our admission practices, programs and classes, curriculum, Academic Support, and campus resources are innovative and are continually assessed so that we continue to meet our students’ needs and exceed their expectations. Here’s how:

Admission

Quote:
Our admission practices are designed to assess a student’s ability to achieve. Only students who demonstrate the potential to succeed and who we believe will be committed to that success will be admitted. To demonstrate potential, students must attain a satisfactory score on the LSAT, and possess a Bachelor’s Degree, an Associate’s Degree (with qualifications), or qualify for Special Student status. Applicants who do not meet these criteria but who believe they can demonstrate potential may qualify for our performance program. We also offer January, June, and August admission dates. Contact our Admission Office to learn more about the application process and to reserve a spot at one of our upcoming Information Seminars. Call 310-342-5210 for more information.
