The DLS - Düsseldorf Law School is the graduate unit of the Heinrich-Heine University’s Faculty of Law, one of the most acclaimed German law faculties in recent times, and which is located in the vibrant business law City of Duesseldorf. It combines the academic expertise and resources of the research centers and institutes associated with the Faculty of Law. Inter alia, these centers and institutes deal with, inter alia: intellectual property law, information & technology law, health law, business & corporate law, tax & accounting law, arbitration & mediation, insurance law). The variety and indebth knowledge of these fields provides a unique and focused opportunity for advanced and continuing legal education.

With a maximum number of 75 LL.M. students in three highly-specialized programs, the DLS belongs to the top5 facilities for graduate legal education in Germany. The three LL.M. programs, offered primarily in German, include:

The Center for Intellectual Property (CIP) offers a one-year LL.M. program in Intellectual Property law. Advanced-level classes relate to issues in patent law, copyright law, trademark law, the law of unfair competition and antitrust. The particular success of this program is evidenced by the fact that the number of applicants far exceeds the 25 spots which the CIP has offered for each incoming class since the program started in 2001.

Since 2004, the Center for Information & Technology Law offers the LL.M. (information law), a one-year degree focusing on telecommunications law, regulatory law, e-commerce, internet & technology law, IT contracts, data protection, copyright, trademark and antitrust, as well as criminal law relating to new technologies and e-government. Some lectures are held together with those of the LL.M. (Intellectual Property). Similar to the LL.M. (intellectual property), highly-motivated lecturers from in- and outside of academia, as well as the highly-focused curriculum contribute to an advanced Masters program in an extremely dynamic field of the legal profession.

In Fall 2007, 25 graduate students began advanced legal studies in our new LL.M. program in Health Law, which is sponsored by the Institute for Medical & Health Law. The curriculum combines classes in public, criminal and contract law relating to the health care field, laws surrounding new medical products, as well as courses on ethical and philosophical questions associated with medical treatment and therapies.

In addition, the DLS offers a wide-ranging curriculum of lectures series, workshops, conferences and presentations. Among other events, the research centers and institutes host the Düsseldorfer Patentrechtstage (“Düsseldorf Days on Patent Law”), the Düsseldorfer Informationsrechtstage (“Düsseldorf Days on Information Law”), the Summer School on European Business Law, the Düsseldorf International Arbitration School, the various other lectures in the field of corporate law, intellectual property law, medical treatment & health law as well as insurance law. Further, the DLS hosts a special lecture series designed for entrepreneurs.
The classes and advanced legal education provided by the DLS research centers & institutes also provide a regularly chosen option for the continuing legal education of judges and other high-profile legal practitioners.

From time to time, as requested from professional and governmental organisations, corporations and law firms, the DLS provides special teaching to practitioners in all business law-related fields of the legal profession.
The DLS is located at the Faculty of Law on the campus of the Heinrich-Heine University. We welcome anyone interested in visiting our facilities - contact us!
