Default Thomas M. Cooley Law School (MI) Sues New York Law Firm For Defamation

A Michigan law school filed two lawsuits Thursday – one against a New York law firm and another against four anonymous internet commentators – accusing them of defamation.

In one lawsuit, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, located in Lansing, Michigan, claims that it has been the victim of ads on Craigslist and Facebook – posted by attorneys at Kurzon Strauss LLP – seeking former Cooley law students to join in on a potential class action suit against the school.

In the second lawsuit, also filed Thursday, the school claims that four “John Doe” defendants have been blogging and perpetuating online comments damaging to the school’s reputation, Thelen said to the Law Blog.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion about Cooley, but we feel these defendants have really crossed the line into defamatory territory, and we simply have to act,” Thelen added.

Attorney David Anziska, one of the two Kurzon Strauss attorneys named in the lawsuit, says he plans on countersuing both the law school and its lawyers.
