University of Dundee, in Scotland, is the only university in the UK to offer students a choice of either English/Northern Irish or Scots Law LL.B. degrees.

It now offers a dual-qualifying LL.B. degree in Scots Law and English/Northern Irish law.

The University of Dundee (Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh Dùn Deagh) is a university in the city and Royal burgh of Dundee, Scotland.

Founded in 1881 and existing for most of its early existence as a constituent college of the University of St Andrews, the University of Dundee became an independent institution in 1967 whilst retaining much of its ancient heritage. Since independence, the university has expanded to become an internationally renowned centre for teaching and research.

About the Law School

The School of Law at the University of Dundee is a dynamic and outward looking law school which seeks to achieve excellence in teaching, research and professional development. The teaching of law can be traced back to as early as 1410 through the School's origins in the University of St. Andrews.

Today, Dundee is the only British law school to offer qualifying undergraduate LLB degrees in both Scots law and English law. From 2009 students can elect to follow a dual qualifying pathway, allowing them to proceed to professional training in either Scotland, or, England & Wales/Northern Ireland or, both.

Over 60 students are recruited annually from around the world onto the Law School's LLM programmes. Modules are delivered by staff who have published widely and many of whom are acknowledged leaders in their fields. In 2008 a Joint LLM was established with the University of Cergy-Pontoise outside Paris which allows students to gain advanced instruction in issues of international commercial law from both common law and civil law perspectives.

In relation to the LLB and LLM our commitment is to provide high quality instruction, with a focus on matters of practical relevance, to prepare students for a successful legal career, whether at home or abroad. This commitment has been reflected in external assessment and rankings which have seen the Law School ranked as 8th of all Law Schools in the UK in the Complete University Guide and ranked 9th in the UK in the Good University Guide.

The internationally recognised research undertaken by staff at Dundee covers fields across the legal spectrum. As well as publishing in leading journals, staff have a track record of success in securing external research funding. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise Dundee was one of only two law schools in the United Kingdom to achieve a 100% international standard classification, with half of our submissions being graded internationally excellent or world leading. In partnership with the Scottish Information Commissioner, the Law School has also launched the Centre for Freedom of Information.

Dundee Law School also has very strong ties with the legal profession, locally and nationally and was the first law school in Scotland to appoint a Director of Legal and Professional Development to manage our portfolio of CPD and other professionally orientated courses. Our innovative distance learning LLM in International Dispute Resolution affords legal professionals the opportunity to specialise in one of the fastest growing areas of legal practice. This will build on the success of our existing distance learning Healthcare Law and Ethics programme.
