In such situation you can file a complaint with the bar in which the lawyer belongs to regarding the insufficiency of service.

Your friend is losing his job over a poor decision he made regarding drugs. What he did was a crime, crimes have consequences.

Since he’s already accepted a plea, which includes sentencing, character references are irrelevant at this point.

Re: Lawyer is not defending properly

You are in no position to judge whether your FRIEND's attorney is defending him properly.

Besides, the defense has concluded and your friend accepted the plea.

Re: Lawyer is not defending properly

I wish to inform you that your friend may terminate the services of the attorney and appoint a new attorney to represent in the litigation further. A Substitution of Counsel will be filed in the Court after which new attorney appointed will represent your friend in the Court. Your friend and the attorney may also meet the public prosecutor and explain the mitigating factors and the risk to the job of the friend. Your friend may request the Court to show leniency in the matter.
