Default Will PayPal truly make sure the seller is legit?

Will PayPal truly make sure the seller is legit?
Or am I taking my chances.
I am using them for the first time and frankly I am a bit nervous.

I wish to inform you that you may read the terms and conditions for Buyer Protection on the PayPal Website. You may also call their Customer Service and ask any questions or queries in your mind. Thereafter, you may take a decision in the matter.

Yes, you are taking your chances.

Make sure you carefully study all the terms and conditions and remedy procedures.

However, buyers seem to do better these days then sellers.

What is it you are buying?

Some things just shouldn't be bought online, especially used stuff of any appreciable price.

Generally PayPal will not guarantee whether a seller is legit or not. But they have a verification process for sellers, so it is safe to deal with a PayPal verified seller.

Unless they specifically telling you in your account that the transaction is verified, they will not provide very good coverage for you. And In any circumstances you need to use appropriate due diligence.

They certainly do NOT guarantee that. I have been dealing with a fraudulent seller for 7 months now.

I guess PayPal helps identify who the people are but that says nothing about how the people may conduct business, especially newer sellers.

It was entirely up to you to verify the bona fides of the seller and take appropriate precautions.

Caveat Emptor.

Self preservation is nobody's business but your own. Never rely on anybody else to take care of that for you.

Check the seller's transaction history. If it is extensive and positive then you are safe. Otherwise you certainly have some risk.

I learned that the hard way when buying from some so-called verified firm in Hong Kong.
And in the end paypal did very little to help me.
