Default Title change to higher position but no raise

I was told that I was getting promoted at my next review and a request was put in for a raise. My review came and I was told in writing that they were changing my title and it would not be a promotion and I would not get a raise. However that title I was given alread exist within the corporation and is a higher grade level. Is this a promotion or a title change and is it legal. The title change was from an admin to an analyst.

Sorry, but you can be promoted and/or given a new title, and give new and greater duties, all with no more money, and it's perfectly legal.

If you don't like it you are free to polish up the old resume and seek employment elsewhere.

As long as you earn minimum wage, they can pay you what they want.

Unless the promised something in writing and you relied on it, it will be very hard to enforce any agreement.

BUT you an talk to them and ask them to explain. They may not want to possibly lose you either!

If it was simply a request for a raise as you say, then that is not binding. Unfortunately. But if you were promised a raise there may be some opportunity to pursue the issue for you.

In this you have no legal standing to dispute the promotion. The only thing you have to do is to perform well in the new position and make the management think about your appraisal.

"request was put in for a raise"

That basically sums it up, it was a request. Not a guarantee.
