Default Time to get PI funds paid to me?

Ohio

The lawyer in my PI case says I have to wait 6 months to get the funds that the insurer just paid him in my case.
Is that normal?

I seems odd. The lawyer says he has to do that in case they change or reneg but I never heard of such a thing.

No, it's not normal. To be blunt, he's full of crap.

There is a written settlement agreement (an enforceable contract) and you signed a release.

The only reason for a short delay is if there are any liens against the settlement like from medical providers or medical insurance companies.

You may file a complaint if you like:

There is no justification for keeping the insurance amount for a period of six months. You can ask for a written confirmation from the lawyer regarding the holding of the money and you can file a complaint against him if he states frivolous reasons.

ODD and NOT true. Ask the state bar to intervene. That would be my advice.
