Default Question about defamation

Hello, I would like to ask a question about defamation. It turns out that I was an au pair in the United States and now my host mother and telling lies, that I am crazy obsessive and that I didnt do what I had to do in my job, when we never had any problems. It's a small town and that information is circulating in the mouths of people who do not know me and hurt me.
What can be done?

I wish to inform you that you may file a case and seek compensation for loss of reputation and mental pain and suffering because of defamation caused to you. Further you may seek injunction whereby you may seek a court order that your host mother may not make any statement which is false and can cause defamation.

She can give her opinions but cannot say anything factually untrue about you.

If you feel she is making factually inaccurate statements, give her a warning. After that I agree with AFFA. She could possibly be sued.

You can file a case to ask compensation from persons who are making defamatory statements against you by showing that the statements made by them adversely affect your reputation.
