extra land in our house

we bought this built house 13 years ago. Recently the neighbour claimed four feet of his land is inside our area. when we measured, our house has four feet of land inside. But this house was built not by us. And we dont want to rebuild our compouud. Please help!!

I wish to inform you that land records may specify details of exact property division. In this you may refuse to change boundaries on the ground that under easement rights you have right to use area as your boundary.

Usually the parties can come to some agreement if a structure has already been built and been there for so long. And if there was any issue it was not your fault arguably. (Though you should have checked the land records when buying or taken some kind of title insurance if possible)

If not a court can help enforce a decision.

You are a bonafide purchaser in this matter. It is good to reach a settlement with your neighbor and you can sue the person who sold the land to you for whatever damages you incurred. It is good to consult a lawyer in this matter.
