Default I'm going to be selling on Amazon

Texas

I'm going to be selling on Amazon on the side but I don't intend for it to be a full time business. So would I still need to register a business name and get an EIN to do that? Also, if I'm doing it at home, would I put my home address as the business address? Are there any other laws about ecommerce that I need to be aware of for this?

Nothing is ever as simple as you think it is or want it to be.

Start with the following Amazon page and decide if you want to sell as a professional or an individual depending on how many items a month you want to sell.

https://services.amazon.com/selling/benefits.html

Carefully and thoroughly read and understand Amazon's rules and regulations.

I don't see any reason why you can't operate as a sole proprietor doing business as and using your own SSN for taxes since your Schedule C - Business and Schedule SE - Self Employment Tax get attached to your personal 1040 anyway.

You will have to collect and pay sales tax on anything you sell to people in Texas and you'll need a sales tax permit:

You don't generally have to charge sales tax for other states but there may be exceptions so you'll want to check each state that you do business in.

Next stop is the Secretary of State's website which has a lot of information about running a small business in Texas. Any registration requirements will be there.
