Default Use of European approved pharmaceuticals

Is it legal to buy drugs in Europe while I am there and then use them for a six month period while I am back in the US?
I want to buy an approved drug in Europe that has not yet been approved in the USA.
I am a US citizen. Thank you.

I wish to inform you that unapproved medicines may not be brought inside USA from abroad. However under Personal Import Policy you may be allowed to bring unapproved medicine if there are circumstances under which a United States citizen may wish to seek treatment with an unapproved drug that is not domestically available. Further such request must be accompanied by an affirmation that the drug is for the patient’s use only along with name and address of the US licensed physician which is responsible for the patient’s treatment.

Normally it is illegal to bring a banned drug to USA from outside. But if it is only the life saver and the necessity is certified by a licensed medical practitioner you can bring and use that particular drug.

Well banned and not approved are two different things. A banned substance cannot be brought in even with the approval of a doctor.

Can I bring back some weed from Amsterdam to Colorado?

It's legal in both places.
