Default Terminated from a job I had for almost 2 years.

AZ

I was recently terminated from a job I had for almost 2 years. When the owners wife found out I had a record my days started to get cut, they would tell me it's because I cleaned the store when asked not to I always stayed later than my shift was and was asked to clock out. I filed for unemployment and was denied, the owner had told me he was going to make sure I couldn't get it. He fired me in front of the whole store and customers then proceeded to yell at me, it was humiliating. My co worker was also fired we were told for not filling out a sheet that has our duties on it and I had! She hasn't been denied hers yet. What do i do?

If you have a work agreement with your employer and they had not complied with the terms regarding termination, you can file a case against them for compensation. It is good to consult a lawyer in this regard to pursue the case.

I wish to inform you that Arizona law provides that an employer may terminate an employee at any time. The term is called “at-will employment.” The legal basis for this is that the employment relationship is considered to be like a contract and at any time either party may decide to end the employment relationship. (A.R.S. § 23-1501). However, there are exceptions. These include termination in violation of a written employment contract or on the basis of discrimination and retaliation. You may contact an attorney and seek guidance.
