Default Breaking Lease, Landlord issues

Hey, I am an international student in canada. I want to break my lease. My landlord only has a picture of the front page of my passport and my a photo of my student card. He doesn't have my SSN and I have no credit history. What should I do if I want to break the lease due to in habitability. Also, If I just leave, would I be affected?

I wish to inform you that it is the terms and conditions of your lease agreement that will have jurisdiction in this matter. If you breach the terms of the lease, then you may have to pay damages to the landlord so that he is put in the same condition as the landlord would have been in if the lease had not been breached. To break the lease on grounds of the premises being uninhabitable, the burden of proof will be upon you to prove your claims. Further, a money judgment may be awarded in favor of the landlord. You may contact an attorney and seek guidance in the matter.

If you break the lease your landlord can file a complaint against your as well as a case. A legal issue is not good for you as an international student. It is better to seek a lawyer advice to terminate the lease.

The above is all true but frankly it is not likely the landlord will pursue you. It wont be worth the time and money.

You have no basis for making that assumption.

Yes I do.
You can't track down international students and sue them internationally.
Just doesn't work.
I have been a landlord many years.

Then why don't you register here and make yourself useful?

This site needs more long term advisors to offset the "guests" that ambush threads with useless information.
