Are some people still using these phones or did Samsung kill them all with software updates.

There are a few articles claiming that indeed many users have kept the phone, and have developed hacks avoid the software updates by Samsung. But as many users have noted here, it's not a good idea to keep using a dangerous piece of equipment and software.

You can't take it on the airplane, and you can't take it into any protected area. And it is highly dangerous. It might be best to turn it in and choose from the many many products that are comparable at this point in time.
