In this regard first you should do a patent search to determine if a similar design already exists. If no such similar design exists, you can include a discussion of your research in your application. The important thing in applying for a patent design is to make an application. If you find any difficulty in applying for patent design it is good to hire an attorney by signing a power of attorney.

I wish to inform you that there is a patent for housing for small pet animals such as rodents or the like. The details are - United States Patent 5,862,778 Matsumoto January 26, 1999. You may patent a new design for a hamster cage on the USPTO.

Patent on a new design for a hamster cage

Can I patent a new design for a hamster cage (hamster home I usually say)? Is that allowed?
Or what else could I do?

The hamsters really seem to noticeably like it, they also seem more active, and it improves the owners viewing as well!
