Default The city bus hit my car while turning a corner.

Phoenix AZ

The city bus slightly hit my car while the bus turning a corner. There was some minimal damage,
We exchanged cards and they said a report would be coming etc.
But I have heard nothing for 6 weeks now.
What should I do? next?

Call up the city's claims department and find out what's happening.

And do the following claim form ASAP.

https://www.phoenix.gov/financesite/...AIM%20FORM.pdf

Make sure you keep a copy. Send it with tracking and a delivery confirmation.

And follow up more frequently.

Meantime, get a couple of repair estimates.

You should have reported it to your insurance company.

I was thinking to do that but I don't want to lose my no-claims discount for something that 100% was not my fault.
And if I understand it, I would lose the discount for reporting this incident and filing as a claim.

That's all well and good but you need to understand the potential consequence of making that kind of decision.

Read your policy. Find the section Duties After an Accident or Loss:

Quote:

We have no duty to provide coverage under this
policy if the failure to comply with the following
duties is prejudicial to us:
We must be notified promptly of how, when
and where the accident or loss happened.
It's been six weeks. If the city comes back and blames you for the accident and wants you to pay for damage to the bus and THEN you report it, you could have a problem if the insurance company's right to investigate has been prejudiced.
Comply with your policy condition to preserve your right to coverage. Loss of coverage can cost you a lot more than loss of a discount.

You're not filing a claim you're reporting it as you're likely required to do.

The driver who crashes into your car is responsible for reporting the accident to his or her car insurance company. However, make sure you contact their insurer as well. Motorists who cause accidents are often reluctant to report them. It’s vital to get complete information on the other party at the accident scene. Collect the following- Other driver's name and address, Other driver's insurance company name and policy information, and Statements and contact information from witnesses. Take pictures of the accident scene -- most smartphone cameras are suitable. This way, you'll have evidence gathered at the scene to bolster your position on the cause of the accident. Although you may feel that you have not caused the accident, you should contact your insurance company anyway. This establishes your good-faith accident-reporting effort and can aid you if the other party's insurer denies responsibility for the accident and you need to make a collision claim.
