Default Problems with timeshare in Mexico

Ex-brother-in-law had time share at Mexican resort, was in process of reconciling with ex-wife. They were on vacation at resort and he owed money for what ever, she paid the money owed. Once home received paperwork that showed they added her name as co-owner. He died several months later. She continued to pay annual fee for time share. She tried to cancel her name off the account and they refused. She cannot sell it either. Resort is coming up on large assessment that could break her financially. They told her they will come after executor of her will when she dies and executor will be listed as owner. Can a Mexican resort put a lean on an American estate when her name was added illegally? Any recourse with this horrible situation?
