Default Is this landlord harassment?

Alabama

My rent is late due to severe recent health issues, and my landlord told me if I didn’t have proof by 5pm that ***t would hit the fan.
Is that landlord harassment?

What should I do to make the LL act legally.

You owe rent by the due date. You’re admittedly late. He’s giving you the chance to prove you weee sick, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. He could, instead, start eviction procedures.

Harassment is the use of aggressive methods by the landlord in an attempt to pressure or intimidate a tenant. For harassment to be actionable, the landlord's action usually must be ongoing and not an isolated incident. Perhaps the most common reason tenancies are terminated is a tenant’s failure to pay rent on time. When a tenant does not pay rent by the due date, some states require landlord to provide a grace period before issuing a pay rent or quit notice. When a tenant is repeatedly late with rent, different states have different requirements for how many chances landlord has to give tenant. It is best to speak with the landlord and reach a consensus.

No, it's not harassment, it's the landlord giving you a chance to prove you are sick rather than serving you with a 7 day pay or quit notice in accordance with Alabama landlord tenant statute 35-9A-421 (b):

https://law.justia.com/codes/alabama...ion-35-9a-421/

If you haven't paid or left by the end of 7 days, you'll be evicted through the court and the sheriff will put you and your belongings out on the street.

Which would you prefer, getting booted out by a sheriff or proving your are sick and maybe getting an arrangement.
