Default Shoplifting charge at airport in Italy

Good morning
I am a 27 yo man. i have been in italy for 7 days in april 2019 on a tourist visa
When i was leaving i was caught by the police and accused of shoplifting in fiumicino airport, they took my information and let me go to catch my flight and gave me a document, and they said they will send the proper documents in time to my adress in the USA.
They said i will need a lawyer, they appointed one but she refused the call.

They accused me of artt 624 e 625 co 1. P.te 7 CP

I would like to know what are the consequences ? What do i risk ? What do i have to do now ?

The consequences of the offence charged against you should lead to punished with imprisonment from six months to three years and with a fine from 154 euros to 516 euros. The risk is that you will be arrested in Italy whenever you arrive.

When you get the letter--if you do--you will want to hire counsel in Italy to see if it can be resolved perhaps without a court appearance, and just a fine or some other solution.

If you are required to appear in court its up to you but as Lexus noted if you do not go, you would be arrested in Italy if you ever go back, and possibly in all of the EU.

They normally won't come to the USA to get you for that type of offense.
