Default Homeowners insurance and coronavirus?

Would somebody's homeowners insurance cover them if they gave somebody the coronavirus? So that they would have to pay the medical care of the person they gave it to?

If health officials show that insured person was the transmitter, in their home.

Possibly. Depends on the circumstances. It would not be automatic. Homeowners liability insurance pays the claimant if the claimant's damages were caused by the homeowner's negligence.

Here's a couple of scenarios:

1 - Homeowner didn't know he had it, guest catches it. No negligence, no payment.
2 - Homeowner knows he has it, warns guest, guest visits and catches it. No negligence, no payment.
3 - Homeowner knows he has it, conceals it, guest catches it. Might not be covered due to the intentional acts exclusion but the homeowner would be on the hook for the medical costs.

In spite of the above, some of the claimant's medical costs could be paid by the Medical Payments coverage on the homeowners policy without regard to fault.

Wow, very helpful, thanks.

It's not clear yet if the person knew but there was a chance he did.
I wont go into all details here now, but he kind of skipped out on self quarantine as well.

Makes me also wonder how well that will work around the country.

A broad swath of the nation’s insurers has agreed to waive the charges for a coronavirus test for their members. But they have not committed to cover the cost of care for those sickened by the virus. And while there is no specific treatment for the rapidly spreading infections, insurers have not expanded coverage for anyone, including the more seriously ill who need hospitalization. Almost all private insurance plans include hospital coverage, with patients in different plans left to pay different amounts of the bill, and that arrangement is intact in the era of covid-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Completely irrelevant to the question.
