Default Being accused of stealing mail

Texas

What are my rights and what are the proper procedures in being accused of stealing mail and how do we go about defending our selves?

You don't have to do anything unless and until a law enforcement officer comes to the door. THEN all you do invoke your right to an attorney and DON'T TALK.

Until then, your response to your accuser shouldn't be any more than "I didn't" and then DON'T TALK any more.

The more talking you do, the more trouble you make for yourself.

My boyfriend and I.

A relative has accused us of taking the mail, where we used to live helping the relative. She is bitter now that we left.

And the Inspector General sent an inquiry to us.

Well, that's a different story. Could be serious.

I would treat that the same as a police investigation and talk to an attorney before responding.

Meantime, if you want to post a redacted copy, click "go advanced" and then "manage attachments" where you can upload a scanned copy.
