Default star registry

There is a company called something like star registry where you can pay and then name a star -- is that real and legit? Is the naming of the star legally binding on the world for all of the future?

after a quick google search, i found several companies who will gladly take your money to name stars, most of which have already been identified and are listed in the International Astronomical Union.

refer to this web site: http://members.efn.org/~jcc/starfaq.html#one

It's a scam. No company can name a star - that's up to the IAU not some company.

The ad on the radio says that the name is recorded in "book form in the US copyright office" which is pretty meaningless.

Save your money and get another gift.
