Default Is a motorcycle automatically covered by my auto insurance?

Hi!
Is a used motorcycle that I buy automatically covered by my auto insurance?

If not can the insurer deny me motorcycle coverage if I have an existing auto policy?

You are required to take insurance if the motorcycle is not covered by one. If the motorcycle is not covered by an insurance you will not get any coverage.

No.

The following is from my copy of a NY Personal Auto policy:

“

Your covered auto” means:

1. Any vehicle shown in the Declarations.

2. Any of the following types of vehicles on the date you become the owner:

a. a private passenger auto; or
b. a pickup, panel truck or van, not used in any business or occupation other than

farming or ranching.
This provision applies only if you:

a. acquire the vehicle during the policy period; and
b. ask us to insure it within 30 days after you become the owner.
If the vehicle you acquire replaces one shown in the Declarations, it will have the same

coverage as the vehicle it replaced.

If the vehicle you acquire is in addition to any shown in the Declarations, it will have the
broadest coverage we now provide for any vehicle shown in the Declarations.

Sorry about the mess. This site does that when pasting quotes from other documents. You can find the same thing in your own insurance policy. READ IT.

Some insurance companies write motorcycle policies, some don't. If your insurance company doesn't then, yes, it can refuse to cover it for you.

I suggest you talk to your insurance agent about the available of motorcycle insurance for you.
