Default Subpoena with large errors and appears to be a mistake

I received a subpoena from a lawyer with 2 letters of my name spelled wrong and also the phone number listed was of an area code different from mine.
I have no connection to the case that I know of.

I called the law office twice but no return call.

Do I have to appear next week?

I am planning not to go.

Then you risk contempt of court if it turns out that you do have something to do with the case.

Keep calling the lawyers office every half hour if you have to.

If you can't get this resolved by the appearance date I suggest you show up and resolve it in person.

The subpoena commands the witness to “lay aside all pretenses and excuses and appear before” the court at the date and time indicated. A subpoena simply requires you to appear and testify at a hearing, a deposition or some other judicial proceeding. In most cases, you’re simply a witness needed to describe what you saw or heard. The best advice after you’ve been served with a subpoena is to call the lawyer listed at the bottom and try to cooperate. If the date and time is inconvenient, s/he may be able to reschedule.

IMO--Call the lawyer and tell them you cannot make that date.
They will normally have to try to reschedule.
Then investigate further what is really going on.

Keep records of your attempt to contact the lawyer that send the subpoena.
They really should offer some basic explanation.
