GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has said that his mastery of the federal tax code has allowed him to legally avoid paying federal income taxes. He has talked less about his efforts to avoid paying other types of taxes.

From what I understand he is right on the edge and maybe OVER the edge on his taxes.
So it is not 100% clear that he operates legally.

If that were the case, the IRS would have dealt with it in their numerous audits of his taxes.

Not for the years this article covers. He is frequently under audit due to the complex nature of his numerous businesses and their effect on his taxes.

I am not sure I would advise readers to follow the Trump approach on taxes.
He seems clearly in the high risk category.
And that could all come crashing down at some point.

Not at all. He simply has such complex taxes that unique professional tax interpretations are made by his tax accountants. No different than the numerous special Wyoming trusts set up by many billionaires to hide their income from taxation. Most notably, Hillary's friends the Waltons'.
