    Assistance from husband after divorce

    Texas

If we divorce Am I guaranteed some kind of financial assistance from my husband, at least for a while?
I have no job currently and our total assets are about 12,000 dollars and we have no debt. He makes about 49,000 dollars per year.

But I will not be able to have any income right away once we divorce.
Divorce is inevitable and needed asap for many reasons.

Texas is a community property state so you are entitled to half the value of your assets and, depending on the length of the marriage, maybe spousal support.

If that $12,000 is cash and is accessible to you I strongly suggest that you take $6000 out of the account, get yourself a post office box, and open an account at a bank you don't currently do business with.

Do this before you or he file for divorce because, once you file, you won't be able to.

Consult an attorney once you have the money safely set aside.

You should definitely be sitting down for a consultation with a divorce attorney as soon as possible.

With 12,000 in assets that may or may not be possible frankly...

Maintenance, or alimony, is rarely granted in Texas.

You haven’t provided near enough info for even a guess, such as length of marriage, kids, relationship, etc.

In this case you can demand for spousal support together with getting a portion of marital property. It is good to consult a lawyer before filing for divorce.
