Default Time frame for Chapter 7 bankruptcy

Hi:
How long will the full bankruptcy process take in a Chapter 7 in the US?

Can I somehow require that the matter be done in 90 days if I have to leave the country for a new job in Singapore?

Between 3-6 month from the date you file your petition. However, just preparing to file the petition takes time, and the speed of the process depends on how fast you meet all your requirements.

The following website gives you the timeline for the process. Start at "The Filing of your Chapter 7 Bankruptcy"

No. You cannot "require" anything. You have to go through the process, whatever it takes.

However, after your 341 meeting (your attendance is mandatory) it looks like you can do the rest of it by mail through your attorney.

You certainly cannot set YOUR time frame for when it will be done.
Only the judge can do that but you don't have to be there in person more then one time usually. Your attorney can cover most of the appearances.

And BTW if a creditor starts to object as happened in my case then all bets are off as to timing.

Normally a Chapter 7 bankruptcy process requires more than 3 months to complete. But if you furnish all the required documents and engage the case to an experienced bankruptcy lawyer, he can expedite the process.
