Default Can I file my own provisional patent with the US Patent office?

Can I file my own provisional patent with the US Patent office?

Is that hard to do? Or can anybody basically do it.
I was looking at the first few web pages on the gov site but honestly I could hardly understand it.

If you are familiar with all the procedures of filing you can do it yourself as the patent office would not examine the content of the provisional application. If all the procedures are complied they will issue a receipt of the provisional application.

You can, until you can't.

Then you've gotten to the "can't" point and you need a patent attorney. If your invention is worth anything, it's worth having a patent attorney.

After you get through it once it seems very easy.

And provisional patents are helpful in the short term as you know.

If the matter involves huge amounts of money and you have resources, an attorney is helpful.

But if you often have good ideas and want to file first stage provisional patents on many different ideas, it may be worth working through it and learning.

Also online firms like legal zoom make it even easier. That could also be worth a try.
(that's not an ad or endorsement, just something I know from experience)
