Default Do I have to disclose a misdemeanor that is 19 yrs old

Do I have to disclose a misdemeanor conviction that is 19 yrs old when applying for a job in Texas?

After a certain period can I deny the event ever occurred or leave it off?

The employment application says "have you ever been arrested"? That's all it says. Is it legal to make you respond about events 20 years ago?

Yes its legal. They will find out either way when the do a background check and in many cases, lying on the application can be considered a crime.

Then you reveal it, explain it, express remorse, and emphasize your successful rehabilitation and you might still get the job.

Omit it and they find out anyway and you don't get the job.

You should disclose the misdemeanor conviction otherwise it may show up in the background check.

Well there is a good chance it will never show if it is that old.
So...risks either way.

Personally I would not disclose it. I would treat it as irrelevant ancient history.

That's plain stupid. You're pretty clueless about criminal histories.
