Default Oral cancellation on contract

NY

My 3 page contract that I signed says I may cancel at any time.

I told the small business vendor by phone I was canceling after a long phone call regarding service and product dispute.

The contract does NOT say anywhere (no place in any part of the contract) that the cancellation must be in writing but the vendor says it is not canceled until he receives it in writing so he is charging me a another month.

Who is legally correct here?

Common sense dictates you put it in writing.

How tough could that be?

Yes OK I will but what about the last month?

I refuse to pay! Unless I am legally wrong.

What DOES it say about cancelling? Quote the entire section word for word. Don't leave anything out.

Also quote the section about delivering notices under the contract, if it exists, which is quite common. Often notices have to be in writing under these sections.
