Default Insurer canceling my auto coverage in the middle of the six months

NY

Can my insurer cancel my auto coverage in the middle of the six month period that I already paid for?

I received a fourth ticket but don't they have to wait till the policy period ends?

The insurance company can cancel the policy for the reason of frequent traffic tickets. But you can negotiate with the insurance company to avoid the cancellation.

According to NY's insurance law your policy can be cancelled mid-term for

Quote:
(v)operating a motor vehicle in excess of the speed limit, or reckless driving, or any combination thereof, on three or more occasions;
That's a direct quote from the statute, about halfway down the following page:

https://law.justia.com/codes/new-yor...ticle-34/3425/

With four tickets I seriously doubt that you'll be able to negotiate avoiding the cancellation.

You'll have to find an insurance company that specializes in high risk drivers but you'll pay a lot more for insurance than you paid until now.

As soon as your policy is cancelled your registration will be suspended.

If you decide to drive anyway you'll light up every license plate reader you pass.
