Faculty of Law
The educating of lawyers has been one of the university’s most important duties since 1558, when Kaiser Ferdinand I. declared the “Hohe Schule” of Jena a university. The application of Roman law created a need for law graduates in courts, offices, government institutions, and for mediating disagreements between citizens over civil and business affairs.
