Default Starting a non-profit corp. in Honduras

Honduras needs more tourism for more jobs. We have a project for an ecological park and cultural center. How can we get non-profit status so that philanthropists from other countries can get their tax deductions for donating to us? Also, is it safe for us to have a debit card number on our website for them to send money to our Honduras bank account?

I wish to inform you that the provisions of the Special Law for Non-Governmental Development Organizations (NGODs) incorporated by Legislative Decree No. 32-2011 of June 27, 2011 has jurisdiction in this matter. You may also contact the Federation of Private Organizations of Honduras (FOPRIDEH) for guidance.

Could a US nonprofit formed in the US work on this type of project in Honduras?
Would that be legal?

I just googled this and found this discussion.
Thank you!

Yes that is legal if it is part of the potential scope of business in the articles of incorp. or the charter or by-laws.

And as we have noted here before, expect lots of scrutiny from the regulators and IRS when doing things overseas.
