OTG/Nonprofit?

I am wondering if an off the grid living community could be a non-profit as well operating as three things, food donations from gardening, assistance for homeless veterans in setting up an off the grid home, and dog rescue shelter.

Not easily because the goals of each organization conflict and the officers would benefit financially.

I wish to inform you that the laws of your state will have jurisdiction in this matter. In Cape Coral, Florida it has been ruled by the Court that living off the grid is illegal. A non profit may own an off the grid community.

In the case you reference AFF, it was not so much living off the grid as it was using a non approved water supply.

One would have to meet code requirements on all counts, for all purposes. The dog rescue shelter, living quarters, food storage for the donations you are collecting to meet sanitation requirements if you are storing perishables.

I would check your city/county codes, first to make sure that you can comply with all codes. I don't know that living off the grid is illegal in Florida. It has enough sunshine for Florida Power and Light to be more than half solar and able therefore to brag about having the lowest power rates in Florida.

Google "living off the grid cape coral". The Businessweek article goes very in-depth but does not reveal the final conclusion which is in another of the articles.

Many small communities, actually MOST communities in Florida because they are small, are on well. It is an agricultural state.

Well water is "off the grid" and there is no law I can find prohibiting wells in Florida. Having lived there, and in one town had excellent water from a well on the property, I know there is no law to that effect.

Cape Coral, Florida is a developed city with its own codes. That apply nowhere else but to Cape Coral. I do not see anywhere in the original post that the party intends to develop a dog kennel, shelter, donation site for farm produce in Cape Coral. If I missed something, please advise.
