Default Contribution to a neighborhood nonprofit group

Can I claim on my taxes my contribution to a neighborhood nonprofit group even if I do not have the receipt from them?

I have the check I wrote but nothing from them.
That should suffice still shouldn't it?

I wish to inform you that you may claim relief based upon your contribution to non profit on through your banking records. As you have contributed to non profit through bank thus you have record to prove that you have contributed to non profit if IRS demands such receipts. If asked you may inform that non profit had failed to provide receipt but that does not restrict you from claiming benefit of your contribution.

You cannot legally claim a deduction unless the non-profit is officially recognized by the IRS for such tax purposes. They are supposed to issue letters at years end for your tax records if they are a real registered non profit.

Your check is sufficient to document your donation.

However, since this is a neighborhood organization, I suggest you check its status with the IRS if you don't get the letter referred to by Dis.

Can I demand a nonprofit tax receipt?

I gave 100 dollars in FL but have yet to receive a receipt.

You can demand anything. Obtaining is another.

That's a silly answer above, obviously the person means do they have the right to demand a receipt. If you can't answer the question don't answer. But in any case the answer is yes if you give a tax-deductible donation you are entitled to a receipt.

OP has not established they are a tax deductible organization for income tax purposes. If they are, they should have mailed one already. Since they did not it is unlikely they are a legally deductible charity.

I have made a 400 dollar donation but still no written confirmation from the local charity.
Will just my cashed check be ok for my taxes?
